English: Golden Eyes (Essay)

Greetings. Today I finally finished my essay in English. I run out of ideas about what to write so I decided about this. I hope you like it and have a nice day. My essay is sort of just describing a scenario I created. and a bit of fanfiction of an anime character from Haikyuu which is Kenma Kozume.  The title of my essay is 'Golden Eyes'.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chiyu’s POV
‘Beep Beep’ I gained consciousness waking up from the sound of my annoying alarm clock. I stretched out to snooze it off, but I failed. I rubbed my eyes, and squinted and checked the time on my phone. It was already 7:01 in the morning. I sighed in annoyance. It was another ordinary day to go to school.
I moved lethargically reaching out to the curtains in my room. The light from the sunrise outside reflected on my curtains which made a colour of bright shimmering caramel golden colour. I grasped the curtains slowly opening them revealing the blinding light from outside. I can hear the annoying high pitch tone of birds chirping, harmonizing with each other. Trees danced in the flow of the wind as the fresh air in the morning caressed their branches and leaves.
I put on my light pink cozy slippers, it fits perfectly to my toes just like how Cinderella's glass slippers fit in perfectly. I strolled outside my room down the hallways, clearly still half asleep. I grabbed a glass and filled it with cold water and drank it. Suddenly, I remembered on top of my head that it is Thursday right now. And I needed to take the trash out. I went outside, grabbed the trash not breathing a hint of the stinky filthy stuff in it.
Third Person’s POV
“Meow”
On her way back, Chiyu found an electrical pole that has a small box next to it that sounded like… Cats?
She knelt and was surprised to find three kittens huddled up to a corner of a box. They were brown fur with a pair of golden eyes. It looked like there had been someone taking care of them because of the clean towel covering the bottom of the box and the small containers on the side that had food and water.
“Excuse me” A small voice called from behind, making Chiyu jump slightly before she lifted her head and saw someone standing behind her. A boy, probably about her age, with a short blonde messy bob haircut with black roots growing on top. He had a pair of golden eyes like the kittens she found.
“Uhm, are they yours?”
Sunflower-- that’s the first thing that came up to her mind upon meeting their eyes. She immediately stood up and shook her head, muttering something about coming by and seeing them accidentally. The boy nodded and knelt to replace what was inside the containers. Chiyu noticed how the kittens were comfortable around him, different from how they were when she came close.
“Are they yours?,” Chiyu asked, crouching back down next to him, startling the little boy. “No, Uhm,” he averted his gaze and focused on the cats. “I saw them two days ago. Cat’s food was cheap and, uh… I’m going to take them to the pet store soon”.
Chiyu watched him gently handle the cats, a small smile on his face that came to her as well. “That’s very nice of you” she spoke slowly, making the boy look at her then pursed his lips. He gave one of the cats’ heads a scratch and whispered, "thanks".
ESOL: Term 1 Reflection
Greetings. Term one has been sort of exhausting for me overall. It was pretty hectic with all of these new unfamiliar subjects introduced to me. It was exciting and nerve-racking at the same time as I moved up to a new year level. Things sort of get more quite challenging. My ESOL class, we're great. We've done many learning games related and it was enjoyable. I would rate this term an 8 out of 10 because I think there is still room for improvement. I, personally, have been quite procrastinating and ignoring my unfinished work not until the last minute. I think I need to work on that for next term. In conclusion, Term one wasn't that bad and I'm looking forward to what the next term will bring.
Social Studies: Live Aid
こんにちは! This week in Social Studies I've finished the last unit of our Music through time lessons.
The last unit was Live Aid.
Information about Live Aid:
Live Aid was a concert held in Wembly Stadium in London and at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. It was organised by Bob Geldof and Ultravox vocalist Midge Ure. The concert had an estimated 1.5 billion television viewers and raised millions of dollars for famine relief in Ethiopia. It occurred on July 13, 1985.
Live Aid song I chose: Let it be by Paul Mccartney
Lyrics:
Why you think the artist used this song for their performance?
I think the artist used this song to share the idea of wisdom, peace and hope and it is quite catchy.
In the part...
And when the broken-hearted people living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
For though they may be parted, there is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be
You can tell those lyrics are talking about hope how there is still a chance and there will be the answer to all of our problems I suppose.
Is this a form of Protest? - Explain
I think this song isn't a form of protest. It does not mention how we should claim the rights the Ethiopian famine deserve. It is more of a peaceful encouraging song about hope. However, it could be considered as a peaceful protest, encouraging people to not give and there will be an answer.
Do you think one person could start a similar concert in 2020? Explain your reasoning.
 (Live Aid took 10 weeks to organise)
The answer is yes and no. Yes because I think one person could start a concert and influence the others as we can tell how easy it is for other people to join in. And No, because one person isn't enough to start a whole big concert like that. It takes about 10-20 people to prepare all of the things for the concert like the sound system, stage designs, tickets, reception etc. Basically just common sense. Not to mention the money of how much it would cost to rent a stadium. However, anything is possible for a willing mind.
Include a video link to your favourite song from either Wembley or Philadelphia.
I don't have a particular favourite song from Live Aid. But if I have to choose one it would be this one.
How significant are music and musicians today in affecting change in the world (include examples)
I think they affect today's worlds and are significant because they can heal an emotional wound and change the mood. For example, BTS's fans claim that their songs cured their depression, insecurities and broken hearts through their songs. Here's a link to read about it. It is fascinating how music could impact today's society.
Science Chemistry DLO
こんにちは! In Science, we were set a task to show what we have learned in Chemistry (Acid & Base unit) through a slideshow or a doc. I chose to do a slideshow. We had to pick 4 topics/points. I picked Acid, Base, Alkali and Neutralisation. Here's my work:
Thank you for viewing this post. Have a nice day everyone. =)
Science: Making Salts II (Late post)
こんにちは! Yesterday in Science we have continued with our experiment around making salts with acid and bases. Today's blog will be about the experiment of making salts part 2.
Aim: To produce copper sulfate salt by reacting copper dioxide with an acid.
Hypothesis: By mixing sulfuric acid and copper oxide, a neutralization reaction would occur. Copper sulfate and hydrogen would form.
Equipment:
  • Copper oxide powder
  • Dilute (0.5 mol L-1)
  • Sulfuric acid
  • 50mL measuring cylinder
  • 2 100mL beakers
  • Hot plate
  • Gauze mat
  • Funnel
  • Filter
  • Paper
  • Thermometer
  • Spatula
  • Evaporating basin
  • Stirring rod
Method
  1. Add 20 mL of sulfuric acid to a 100 mL beaker. Heat the acid until it reaches 70°C. Turn off your bunsen burner (in our case the hot plate).
  2. Once heated, use a spatula to add pea-sized portions of copper oxide to the beaker. Stir the mixture for 30 seconds.
  3. Repeat step 2 until no more will dissolve. Allow the beaker to cool.
  4. Fold the filter paper and place it in the funnel. Place the filter funnel into the second beaker.
  5. Make sure the beaker is cold enough to hold at the top. The contents should still be hot. You may need your teacher to complete this step.
  6. Gently swirl the contents of the beaker to mix, and then pour into the filter paper in the funnel. Allow filtering through.
  7. Rinse the beaker you used to heat the mixture previously, and place it back on top of your tripod filled with 50-60mL of water.
  8. Place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker and carefully pour some of the solutions from the beaker into the evaporating basin.
  9. Gently heat the beaker until the solution in the evaporating basin has reduced by half.
  10. Leave the evaporating basin to cool. Once cool, move the evaporating basin to a warm place where it will not be disturbed (i.e. a window-sill) and observe over the next few days. Blue copper sulfate crystals should form.
Observations: When Copper oxide was added to the mixture it turned black but when it was filtered it turned into light blue colour. The smell was quite unpleasant though.
Name of the reaction occurring in step 2: The reaction is called neutralisation.
A few days after the experiment we left it out to dry for the Easter Holiday. We came back to this result. It formed a blue salt crystal inside the beaker. It was fascinating to see.
Thank you for reading this post and have a nice day!
ESOL: MassKara Festival (Essay)
Hi Today in ESOL we wrote an essay about one of our favourite celebrations in our culture.
____________________________
In my city in the Philippines, we have a festival called the ‘MassKara’ Festival. A rough translation of this in English is ‘Masks for many faces’ (Mass - Many / Kara - faces). We usually celebrate this festival every 4th of October every year and it’s held in the centre of Bacolod City. This festival is celebrated to bring smiles to people. Hence, my city is also known as the city of smiles because of this well-known festival. This festival consists of a parade of people wearing colourful costumes and masks. Along the side, there are vendors selling mouth-watering street foods, balloons, souvenirs of the festival, and many more.
I recall attending the MassKara festival one time in the Philippines back in the year 2015/2016. It was memorable and exciting. For as long as I can remember, I went with my family and friends to this event. I’ve enjoyed seeing all the people parade with such eccentric, vibrant details and designs on their costumes and mask. In some cases, they also do a little dance performance-enhancing their costumes and engaging with the audience. It was pretty crowded back then because a lot of people came to see the parade.
During those times, I was nearly leaving the Philippines to go to New Zealand so it was a special experience. With that said, my family and I bought a t-shirt souvenir from the festival. We bought a matching t-shirt with the MassKara festival logo on it. Luckily, I still have the souvenir t-shirt in my closet here in New Zealand because I brought it in my personal suitcase to New Zealand.
Although now in the present, it’s been 5 years since I left the Philippines. I hope someday when the situation around the pandemic is fixed, I will be able to visit and attend the festival once again.
English: All Summer In One Day
Hi, Today in English we've read a short story called "All summer in one day by Ray Budry. We were tasked to blog about the story answering a set of questions in our blog relating to the story.
All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury.
  1. Find 3 words you don’t know the meaning of. Look them up and write the definitions in your post.
Intermixed - Mixed together
Feverish - having or showing the symptoms of a fever.
Immense - extremely large or great, especially in scale or degree.
  1. Discuss the Exposition of the story -- what are the characters, setting, and mood?
The setting of this story is held on the planet Venus, in a classroom-- where it was always raining and the sun only shines out every seven years for 2 hours only. Humans travelled to Venus seven years ago to try to make living out of it.
The main character was Margot, she was different from everybody else. It is because she remembered how the sun looked like from Earth because she was 5 years old before she moved from Earth, so she could pretty much visualise how the sun was. While her other classmates were only 2 years old and they barely remember how the sun looked. They were sceptical of her and didn't believe her when she told them the sun would come out today in Venus.
They decided to lock her in the closet. But later on in the story, Margot was right about the sun coming out today and they felt ashamed of what they've done. Margot was even looking forward to seeing the sun but she missed it because of her terrible classmates.
  1. List and label one metaphor, one simile, and one example of sensory language from the story.
Metaphor:
"She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost"
Simile:
"Then, wildly, like animals escaped from their caves"
One example of sensory language:
"They put their hands up to that yellowness and that amazing blueness and they breathed of the fresh, fresh air and listened and listened to the silence which suspended them in a blessed sea of no sound and no motion"
        4. List and label an example of the show not tell from the story.
"But then they always awoke to the tatting drum, the endless shaking down of clear bead necklaces upon the roof, the walk, the gardens, the forests, and their dreams were gone."
"with the drum and gush of water, with the sweet crystal fall of showers and the concussion of storms so heavy they were tidal waves come over the islands."
