Health: Discovery Project - NPD

 Hi everyone! In health, we were set a task that required us to explore areas of health that interest us in groups or individuals. I decided to work alone on this project and the topic I chose was Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). 

Firstly, we had to answer this doc that was shared with us regarding our chosen topics. There were questions that help us with our research to get a better understanding of our topic. We had to select 5 big questions to answer for the topic of our choice. After answering those 5 big questions, we then proceed to answer strategies or ways to overcome our specific topic. 

Lastly, we had to make an activity or something that teaches another group or the class about our topic. I decided to make a detailed slide-presentation with pictures in it.

I think I just worked okay with myself as for this discovery project. However, I think I could improve on managing my time efficiently so that next time I submit my work to the given due date. Other than that, I think it's all fine. I enjoyed learning about NPD and was fascinated by how underneath the extreme confidence and ego lies a vulnerable damaged self. Film Study: Frey-tags Pyramid - Coraline

Namaste everyone! This week we had another task in Hurumanu 2 film study regarding the plots of the film. Today I've learned how a Freytag's pyramid works as it process to develop the plot of a story. As usual, we used the movie Coraline as our references for our learning. Basically, Freytag's pyramid is a pattern of a dramatic structure highlighting the 7 keys or steps in order to produce a successful storyline. Anyway, we were tasked to make our own version of Freytag's pyramids of the Coraline story plot.

I wonder if there are some other patterns in telling a story other than this?

ESOL: Halloween - Hanako-san

 Hey guys! This week and last week we had a project assigned to us by our ESOL teacher. The project's theme was Halloween because it was Halloween last week. We had to research a legend or a myth in our own culture or other cultures. We also had the choice to do it in any digital learning platforms as long as the expectations are met. Jolly and I worked on this project together. We selected the legend of Hanako-san. If you don't know or haven't heard of this myth. You will learn more about it down below by watching our own mini-filmed that I've edited about it.

Film Study - How does Music enhanced the story?

 Hi everyone! I'm back with another blog post. This week in Film study, we began to look at how the music enhanced the story. As usual, we use Coraline as our film reference for this. We were tasked to write a SEXXY paragraph. 

Here is my SEXXY paragraph:

In the film Coraline, music was used productively to set up a mood in each scene. For instance, in the intro of the movie, the music starts off as a minor key. As it proceeds to play, a major key started mixing in but it is still predominant of the minor keys. The tempo was quite slow but it gradually increases and went down a little bit, staying neutral. The director did this to make the audience feel excited, disturbed, and curious about what the movie is about to bring. Coinciding with the shot had creepy and nostalgic music in a minor and slight major key makes it exciting and builds up tension in an unpleasant way. This aspect can be compared to the scene when the other father sang a song to Coraline. It was a fast tempo song in predominately major keys. There are some diegetic sounds used in the scene which is the piano playing. It sounds like a real piano playing in the scene. Its own dynamic makes the scene cheerful and filled with enthusiastic vibes. 

I don't really have any wondering about this. I just find it fascinating how sound effects and the background music sets up the mood in a scene in the movie. Anyway, I hope you learned something new. Bye!

Heart Dissection - Science

In Science, we have been learning about the Circulatory system as well as the parts of it. As a part of our learning, we dissected a pig's heart. In order to get a deeper and more visual understanding of how the heart works. A pig's heart was a good option due to the fact that it is similar to the human's heart. 

Before we discuss how the dissecting went. Let's learn the functions of each Circulatory system parts work.

Arteries -  Arteries are a blood vessel that takes the blood away from the heart. 

Veins - The veins take the blood back to the heart.

Atrium - The Atrium is the upper chamber of the heart that receives blood.

Ventricle - The ventricle is a V - shapes cavities that push the blood into the arteries to take it away from the heart. 

Vena Cava - The vena cava is a large vein carrying deoxygenated blood from the body to take to the heart. - Deoxygenated means that it does not carry oxygen. 

Aorta -  The aorta is the main artery that carries the blood away from the heart to the body.

Right Side of Heart - Deoxygenated blood enters the right atrium from a vein called Vena cava, the blood is then pumped to the right ventricle. The right ventricle then pumps it to the lungs to get oxygen 

Left Side of Heart - Like the right side of the heart blood enters the left atrium but this blood is oxygenated, which means it carries oxygen with it. Then the atrium pumps it to the left ventricle, after that the left ventricle pumps the blood to the body to deliver oxygen. 

Valves - Valves are gates that only go one way. They open up to let blood flow to the ventricle, it then closes so that blood doesn't flow back out. 

Heart Strings - The heartstrings are strong fibers that hold the valves in place.  

Personally, I think dissecting a heart was okay. I'm not really a fan of it but I don't hate it either. I think it's fascinating how we actually get to look at a real heart (not a human heart though, a pig's heart but it looks similar to it) visually to get a deeper understanding of the parts of the circulatory system. Cutting the heart in half satisfies me the most.

Film Study - Colour and lighting in the two Worlds

Hi! Welcome to another blogpost of mine. In film studies (Hurumanu 2), we've shifted our focus on learning about the colors and lighting techniques used in the same movie Coraline. In the movie, the colors and lightings were used really well to tell the story. Now we were tasked to write paragraphs about it. Describing the contrast of colors between the two worlds which is the 'real' world and the 'other' world.

In the first meeting of Coraline’s genuine parents in the regular world, it starts off having cold and dull lighting. Artificial bright grey lights make it seem colorless and empty. Only Coraline’s presence stands out in every scene with her vibrant blue hair and yellow clothing. The cold lighting also matches the cold mood because her parents seem to neglect her and give her the cold shoulder. The dullness gives a melancholic vibe to the viewers. They might also even feel dissatisfied with how things are like the protagonist in the story, Coraline. In this scene, it also uses the technique of a wide shot. It includes every detail in the room. The room looks empty and plain indeed. 

PE: Gymnastics

Konnichiwa! Today in PE we were practicing our gymnastic skills of a specific thing. I chose to do the balance beam. Personally, I'm not really an athletic kind of person so I had some trouble trying to balance on the beam. Especially, I have some sort of acrophobia (fear of heights). It was challenging for me but I tried my best and here's what I got. We had to follow one of the activities we could do on the balance beam. I did the first one which was the scale balance. Basically, all you have to do is stand in a straight leg with the foot turned out (arms to side or front). We had to take evidence of us doing our task. 

Therefore here's my evidence. (PS. I sort of failed it)

Hello! Welcome to another post. Last week, we were learning about Leadership. We discussed what qualities does a good leader has and we were tasked to create a DLO about it. First off, we brainstormed some ideas on what a good leader has. Here are the qualities I think a good leader has. On the slides, my ideas are written on the left-hand side. Sexxy Paragraphs - Hurumanu 2 - Film Study

Hello! This week in Film study we are learning on how to construct a SEXXY paragraphs. 

It stands for S-Statement, E-Example, eXplain, eXplain, eXplain, Y-Your link. Our learning success criteria is to explain how camera shots, and sound and visual, techniques are used to help tell the story using examples from the text. We had to choose at least 4 screenshots from the film provided and construct a sexxy paragraph about it.

Nǐ Hǎo! Last week in Visual Arts, we learned the different types of photo compositions. Now if you have no idea of what it is, this is the right place for you. Photo compositions in photography are basically placing an element in a way that suits the core idea or goal of your work best. White Blood Cells POV - Writing (Late post)

Hello! Welcome to another post of mine. Weeks ago, In Hurumanu 2 (Science + Literacy) we were studying about blood. In one of our tasks, we were tasked to write a story about the blood cells. To expand an individual's understanding of blood and its functions. Here's my mini-story about the 4 types of blood cells through the White blood cell's point of view (POV). I hope you enjoyed it and have learned something new! 

 White Blood Cells POV (Point of view)

Hello. I am White blood cells. I have three other brothers and they are Red blood cells, Plasma, and Platelets. We are the four types of blood cells that are contained inside the human body. Each of us has different jobs that are responsible for. I and my brother Platelets are the defenders while my brother Plasma and red blood cells are responsible for transporting the chemicals that are needed for the body to survive. 

Together, we are the blood brothers.

Let me tell you, a bit more about me. My job is to protect the human body from any foreign molecules or infections that try to dare to enter the body. I am the bravest and fight any infections that come my way. I fought the infections by producing antibodies. Thus, the human body will stay healthy and safe. I usually rest when the body is perfectly healthy and a bit more active when it’s not well.

My brother, Platelets, kind of had a similar job as me. We both protect the body. Platelets are responsible for making blood clots when the body gets a wound or cut. That way, it would prevent the amount of blood loss from the body. Losing a lot of blood can lead to some serious conditions. Platelets are the tiny fragments of cells.

Next, my brother, red blood cells. He is responsible for carrying a chemical called “Hemoglobin”. A chemical that carries oxygen around the body. Without oxygen, humans wouldn’t be able to live. Red blood cells make up about 45% of the human body so there are more red blood cells.

Lastly, my brother Plasma. Plasma is rather a straw-colored liquid. He transports carbon dioxide from the human cells to their lungs, nutrients from the small intestine of their cells, and chemical messengers (called hormones) to their cells too. It makes up about 54% of the human body's blood.

Now there you have it. We are the blood brothers. Nice to meet you!

Now I have to go. I need to go and fight those nasty infections!

Market Day & Business n' Enterprise (Late post)

The previous term ended with a blast. In the last week of Term 3, we had launched our Market day. Market day is a day where we could sell our own products that we've constructed over the weeks. This project was called Business n' Enterprise 'BNE' for short. The purpose of this was to expand our knowledge when it comes to business, such as managing our finance properly, how to run a business, and to produce a quality product, etc. We had to work in groups of four and form a business. With that, each individual has different roles. The positions are CEO, Financial/sales manager, Marketing manager, and Production manager. Apparently, I was chosen to be the CEO of my group's company. It was kinda stressful because the blame would be pointed out to you if something goes wrong in the company. However, we worked as a team and didn't cause lots of troubles. 

Anyway, we were given a couple of weeks to produce our product. We had to fit in on a theme. The theme was sustainability. As you may be aware, the Earth is in a condition where we need to put an act to save the Earth before it's too late. By creating a sustainable product, it would help the situation. Therefore, it doesn't necessarily to be out environmental, it could be social and cultures. My group liked the idea of creating a product relating to cultures. So we created something cultural-related. Our product is a bit complexed because it is not something you could say as just an individual product. It was a package filled with all sorts of things that are related to cultures. For instance, a bracelet that has some cultural patterns in it. Overall, it was filled with a mini scented candle, stickers, bracelets (as mentioned), a pencil, and last but not the least, a little booklet contained facts about a specific country.

Theme Guide Book - Hurumanu 2 - Film Studies

Hola! This week in Hurumanu 1 (Film Studies) we began looking around 'Themes'. What are the themes? An easy definition for it is Story (action) + Plot = Character development yielding the theme. It is also kinda like what the movie is giving us a message about. Some themes could teach us a moral lesson. In my case, after watching the movie 'Coraline', we started exploring themes based on the movie. We had to make either a Coogle (a digital tool, kind of like mindmap) presentation or a theme guide book to show our understanding of themes. I hope you like it! 

Muscles and Joints - Hurumanu 2 - Science

 Hi, this week in Hurumanu 2 [Science] subject, we began looking at the muscles and joints. Here are some key points I've learned during those sessions. 

1.What is the job of a muscle?

The job of the muscle is to make the bones of your skeleton or the tissue of your organs move.

2. Name the two muscles in your Upper Arm: 

The two muscles in your upper arm are Triceps and Biceps muscles.

3. If the gastrocnemius is contracting, what will the tibialis anterior be doing?

The tibialis anterior will be relaxing.

4. What do the following parts of a joint do?

1. Cartilage - protects the two bones as they rub against each other.

2. Synovial fluid - keeps the bones moving.

3. Ligament - they attach the two bones together.

5. What are two examples in the human body of a:

1. Hinge Joint: 1 knee  2.elbow

2. Ball and Socket Joint: 1 shoulder 2.hips

Goal Setting - Term 4 2020

안녕하세요! (Annyeonghasey - Hello in Korean if you didn't know) 

At the beginning of each term, we are usually tasked to set up goals for ourselves to work for the whole term. By doing this, it gives you something to aim for and directs your efforts towards. As you may know, Term 4 just recently began, hence we are tasked to do our Term 4 goal setting. This will include our academic-related goals and non-academic ones. I personally set-up an achievable goal for myself only if I put an effort into achieving it. However, I am also a bit occupied with other things so I will try my best to achieve them at the time given (each term is usually 10-12 weeks long).  Anyway, feel free to click on the link below if you are interested in seeing my goals for this term. You will have to request access and I will gladly accept them :')

Christmas all around the world

Tiny Boat

Hi, this week Miss Birtched taught me how to write a story in four paragraphs. So here's my story:

Hope you like it :)

My gaze landed first on the top of the hill, and there was some blue clear sky above. As I moved my gaze to the left I saw a blue deep peaceful ocean and a floating big lonely boat in the middle. I placed my gaze to the bottom and there I saw a bunch of tiny boats floating around the area. Something caught my eye, I saw my friend Asami in one of the tiny boats.

I called out to her and she immediately spotted me and showed me an enthusiastic smile. She kept looking at me and was trying to say something but unfortunately, I couldn't hear her. I noticed in the corner of my eye, she is about to crash into another tiny boat. I warned her about it but it was too late, her boat bumped into another boat.

She screamed in the top of her lungs as she crashed into another boat. Her boat was kind of damaged because of that accident and it made a big crack on the side. Cause of that, the icy-like-water started going in her boat as she yelled for help. The water quickly entered the boat and it was already between her knees and her boat is nearly sinking down the water.

Luckily, The guy that was in the boat that she bumped with, jumped to the cold water without any hesitation. He swims quickly as he can towards Asami and saved her from drowning. He carried her in his back and swim back to shore. I sighed in relief that now she is saved by a mysterious guy.

Hi, I'm Elisha Mae a year 8 from Hornby High School. I am participating in SLJ and I've already signed up as well. My favourite subject at my school is Art. What I found interesting in SLJ is the topic on Week 4 which is "All the world's a Stage" - Arts and Entertainment. I hope to improve my learning during the summer holidays by doing this and I'll try my best to give time for this during the holidays to avoid the summer slide.

CIP - Tane Mahuta (T4 W6)

Hi, today is Wednesday so that means CIP day - (Tane Mahuta). I helped out taking out the Ivy's and I also helped out making drench to plant seeds in there. The garden is looking pretty good so far but there's still a lot of Ivy for us to remove but I don't we'll be able to take them all because...
1) We only have 2 weeks until the school year ends
2) We only have Wednesday sessions for Tane Mahuta to work on it
3) The Ivies are going back again

Fun Facts:
As we were taking all the Ivy out, we found an interesting tiny house kinda-like and it's covered with Ivy all over it.
