Women's Suffrage - Hurumanu 6

Hi, This week in Hurumanu 6 we are learning about the types of protest movements. The types of protest movements are Sit-Ins, in protest against racial segregation. Marching - protest against the loss of land. Disruption - protest against parties. Protesters clashing - 2 groups protesting different news. We are tasked to research one of the protest-event in a list and answer some basic knowledge questions about it.

I chose the 'Women's Suffrage' movement. What is it? It's a protest action in the days for protesting about allowing women to vote in politics. It occurred in 1983 on September 19. Back in the days, women weren't permitted to vote. It was certainly unfair. The leader of this protest soon became of the women that created a change in history. Kate Sheppard.

She led the protest fearlessly until eventually the rights were given. Thanks to her, today women are allowed to vote. The type of protest they used was marching and soon disruption. Their voices weren't heard enough so some went hardcore. They cut off the telephone lines, break in a store, etc and some even went to jail for it.

The people that were involved in this protest are mostly women. The outcome of this protest led to a sense of peace. New Zealand was the first country that grant women to vote. Here's a link for more info. Fun fact: Kate Sheppard is in a $10 note in NZ.

Refraction through lenses - Hurumanu 5

Today we did another experiment relating to light in Science - Hurumanu 5. It is about Refraction to lenses. There were two lenses and they are Convex and Concave lenses.

Aim: To investigate how different types of lenses refract light.

Equipment: Triple-slit ray slide, power supply, a concave lens, and a convex lens.

Method:
1) Set up a ray box, triple-slit ray slide, and power supply.
2) Place the convex lens in the space below. Place the ray box at the top of the page and shine the three rays of light at the lens. Make sure the central light ray hits the lens 90-degree angle as indicated in the diagram.
3) Carefully trace the direction of the incoming and refracted rays.
4) Repeat using the concave lens.

Conclusion: 
When light passes through this type of lens, the rays all move away (diverge) from each other. One is of these lenses is in security peephole in a door so that a person inside a room can see who is at the door without having to open it.

When light passes through this type of lens, the rays all move towards (converge) each other. One use of these lenses is in a camera, to focus the light onto the film or digital sensor. Magnifying glasses also use this type of lens.

Final Product - Arts Kete

Hi, This week is the final week of Term 2/ Semester 1 and of course, Arts Kete. For this reason, I am finished with my comic strip. The plot of my story was a bit too long so it didn't really fit in those 3 pages. Here's a clear-ish picture of my comic strip. I'm sorry if you can't really read the words on the comic but here you go anyways.

I did my best I could for this Arts Kete. Although the pages were all created by me, if you look closely, the style of the drawing kinda changed between the first page from the left to the right. You can really tell there were time gaps between those two. But overall, I've enjoyed working on this Arts Kete. My favorite part of this Kete was the drawing part and also where we have had to have a story plan before we rushed onto the drawing part. What could maybe improve this Kete next time is that we have some more time to work on this and more pages to fit on our whole story other than that I think it was okay for me.

I think I wasn't successful at my comic strips because I didn't really have the time to visual out the journey of my character and ended up doing it as 'To be Continued'. One of the CARR values maybe I showed in this Kete is to have some resilience. As you can see, my drawings are not really that good at all. Compared to my friend's drawing, their's were far better than mine if you've seen it. However, that didn't let me down knowing that they have better art than me. I tried my best and didn't give up on it. I've finished and well here they are now.

 What I could do better next time to myself is that to have some reference before drawing it out on the paper especially I'm not an expert on doing so.
