Aim; To look at the different ways we can prevent climate change in the future.

Changing Our Future

Name 3 fossil fuels?
Coal
Oil
Gas

What is the cost?
Carbon Dioxide

The CO2 level has soured since when?
Industrial revolution

What are the effects in the UK?

  1. Heat Waves
  2. Animal Extinction

political will.

What places will be affected?
The places that will be affected are all around the coast of New Zealand.

What else do we need to think about?
We need to think about building houses, not on the coast.

What other places around NZ will be affected?
The other places around NZ will be affected is the Pacific Islands.

What does this do to our drinking water?
It will put salt on the drinking water.

What are the main concerns?

  2.   Erosion

What can we do?

  2. Use less plastic
  3. Don't throw rubbish in the ocean

What is the one, silver bullet solution?
RECYCLING

What is the mix of things we need to start doing?
  1.   Renewable fuels
  2.   Transport that uses solar energy or batteries
  3.   Recycle
What are 3 others you can think of?
  1.   Using less plastic
  2.   Walk instead of using cars

My Investigation
Where does our food come from?

  • Choose your favourite food.

1. Upload a picture of it.
My favourite food is Sandwich with Ham and mayonnaise in it.

2. Draw a picture of it on A4

On your blog answer the following questions.

  • Where does the food come from (e.g. is it from another province or country, was it purchased or made locally)?
Based on my research Sandwich was invented from England.

  • How many kilometres away did the food travel to get to you?

  • What are the main ingredients?
The main ingredients are:
-Bread
-Ham
-Mayonnaise
  • How is the food packaged?
The food is packed with a wrap of plastic.

  • What resources do you need to produce this food item (e.g. land, water, oil, food, etc.)?
=Bread=
We need these items to make bread:
-Water
-Dough
-Flour
-Oven - to bake it all together.

=Ham=
We need these items to make ham:

=Mayonnaise=
We need these items to make Mayonnaise:
  • Would this item have been processed?
Yes, These items have been processed.

  • Is there anything unique or significant about the food item (e.g. fair-trade, local)?

  • What else do you notice about this food that affects its climate friendliness?
I think the things that affect the climate by making sandwiches is animal instinct because you use animals in order to produce hams.

  • Do you think this food is climate-friendly (Circle)?       YES   NO
I think It's Maybe

  • Why?
It's because this food is half climate-friendly and not. It's not climate-friendly because we kill animals to make hams. Also, It is climate-friendly because we grow bread kinds of wheat and we could make homemade mayonnaise.
  • If no, what would be a better alternative?
I think It should be the vegetarian type of sandwich so it doesn't affect the extinction of animals in the world.
