Social Studies: The Beatles

こんにちは! Today in Social Studies, we've moved on to Unit 4. This unit is mainly about The Beatles band in the 1960s how they influenced the rest of the world with their music. One of our minor blogging tasks in this unit was to blog about one of The Beatles' songs and how different it was compared to the 1940s songs. I pick the following song.

Title: YESTERDAY
Released: 1965
Genre: Chamber pop

LYRICS:
Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday

Suddenly I'm not half the man I used to be
There's a shadow hanging over me
Oh, yesterday came suddenly

Why she had to go
I don't know, she wouldn't say
I said something wrong
Now I long for yesterday

Yesterday love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe in yesterday

Why? d she have to go?
I don't know, she wouldn't say
I said something wrong
Now I long for yesterday

Yesterday love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe in yesterday

What is the song about?
'Yesterday' is a love melancholic ballad song about the break-up of a relationship. The song expresses the singers' sorrows of 'yesterday' when he and his love were together before she left because of something that he said. It also describes the love of how sometimes isn't perfect.

How different does it sound from music from the 1940s?
The difference was that the songs in the 1940s mainly use orchestra instruments like brass and they contained classical jazz-type songs. While in the 1960s, it's a more lively and energetic type of music as it's mainly around rock genre, and teenagers were introduced to a revolution being free from those strict rules and get to express themselves, it may be through fashion with funky styles and bright colors or even dances.
