Wind speed - Making an anemometer.

MATERIALS

1. Straws (4x)
2.   Cups (4x)
3.   Pin
4.   Pencil
5.   Tape

STEPS

1. Tape the 2 straws together and also the other 2.
2.  Make a hole both sides of the cups.
3.  Put the straws to the holes do the same to the other one.
4.  Tape them together and make sure the cups are facing the sideways.
5.  Now get your pin and pin both of the straws over and under one another to the rubber of the pencil. 

Once you have made an anemometer we are going to record the wind speed.

Group size: 5

You will need:

Anemometer (above) 

Roles:

• Timekeeper
• Counter
• Recorder
• Anemometer Manager
• Wind generator

1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
2. When the timekeeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
3. If possible, repeat the above step four (4) times and record the average number of spins on the chart.

FINDINGS

• Record how many times it spins using the table below.

You will need to create the wind yourself by blowing. Get 4 different wind speeds by blowing.

You will need to time them and count the number of spins.

• Can you make a statement connecting the number of spins of your anemometer and the speed of the wind? 

CONCLUSION:

Our one worked and it can spin. But there's no much wind to spin it around. Also, we didn't have enough time to spin it 4 times.

Science Hurumanu - The Water Cycle

Hurumanu: The Water Cycle

AIM: TO LOOK AT THE WATER CYCLE AND HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IS AFFECTING IT.

Definition:

Scientific words:

• Evaporation. When water is heated by radiant energy it turns into water vapour.
• Transpiration. Evaporation from plants.
• Condensation. When water vapour cools, molecules join together and form clouds.
• Precipitation. When clouds get heavy the waters falls as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
• Acidification: the action or process of making or becoming acidic.

We will be conducting an experiment that looks at the different ways that climate change is affecting the water cycle.

THE WATER CYCLE EXPERIMENT

Bag 1: Normal Water cycle

Bag 2: Water cycle with CO2 added: like Oceans in climate change

Bag 3: Water cycle with ice added: like Antarctica in climate change

Material:

1. 1x cup Water / Soda Water
2.  3x Bag
3.  1x Blue Food Colouring
4.  1x A piece of Litmus Paper
5.  1x Permanent Marker
6.  Sand 

Steps:

1.  Get a piece of a large bag and a permanent marker from a teacher.
2.  Draw the water cycle on the bag and labelled it (optional)
3.  Pour a 1 cup of Water or Soda water into the Bag.
4.  2 drops of blue food colouring into the bag.
5. Hang the bag in the window.
6. In Bag 2 I added a piece of Litmus paper hanging at the top. Make SURE it doesn't touch the water.

Bag 3 had cycled water, it has a small amount of water and it has none amount of acidity just like Bag 1 it is almost the same.

"Doughnut" - Stopmotion Art Hurumanu Finished!

Kamusta! This week in Art Hurumanu, we've finally finished the Stopmotion project we're doing. It's called "Doughnut" for some reason because It's held in Dunkin' doughnut shop. Before I show you guys the finished product, I'm going to tell you the things that we've done to produce a completed, amazing, cringy stop-motion. 

Firstly, we were randomly grouped with a mix of people between the two classes which is Bh and Tz.

My groupmates were Rarotonga and Charlie. Then, we have to choose our main topic in Manaakitanga and we chose Kindness. We were actually inspired by the short film called "Kindness Ripple" where a man helped a poor family to buy something in the grocery store and years later the kindness that he did return to him. 

Anyways, after choosing a topic Whaea Rowena taught us the types of angles you could do in stop motion. We also did research about the successful people that do illustrate like Quentin Blake. Quentin Blake is one of the examples of people who draw fast and quick but you could see the details. We take him as an example for our next task to do which is StoryBoard. A storyboard is a piece of big paper where there's a lot of small boxes where you can draw each scene is happening on your stop motion.

Short story, me and my group decided to do a stop motion about Doughnut and kindness. The purpose of our storyboard is that so we can remember what is next in our Stopmotion. My group and I only completed 1 storyboard sheet but that's enough to see what's going on in our story. 

Next, we need to do writing about our stop-motion. Miss Birtch taught us how to write a Narrative with good quality. She also taught us to use interesting words instead of boring words. 

Lastly, We did our characters. The characters are Liam, Shine, Sandy - the cashier and Mina. We started making our characters if your doing clays and also the backgrounds and bit and pieces.

After that, we did the script and finally, we film the stop-motion with our Chromebooks. But we need to finish the filming the stop-motion then do a voice-over of it.

Art Hurumanu in Action!

Bonjour! It's finally Term 3!

Today I'm gonna be blogging about what we've been doing in Art Science Hurumanu for the past few weeks. First of all, We were randomly groups by the teacher. I was grouped with Rarotonga and Charlie. We decided to pick 'Kindness' to be our Topic in our stop-motion. Kindness is one of the Manaakitanga topics. 

We've been working on our Narrative writing of our stopmotion. 

Here's my Narrative writing I've done:

“The Doughnut Shop”

 It was a sunny day, the sun was shimmering through the window of the colourful shop of Dunkin Doughnuts. A beautiful lady with a Blonde long hair and was wearing casual clothes entered the Dunkin Doughnut Shop and her name was Mina. Mina walked towards the counter and ordered something. “Can I please have a Strawberry Frosted doughnut?”, she muttered. “Sure, that would be $6.00”, replied Sandy, the cashier of the Dunkin’ Doughnut shop.  Mina handed a Ten dollar note, and Sandy gave her $4.00 change. As soon as Mina got her Strawberry frosted doughnut, she sat in one of the Light Black stools and she ate her doughnut quietly. 

A while later, another customer comes in. It was a man and his daughter. They both have light Orange hair, his daughter Shine has a Pigtails hairstyle and was wearing a purple dress. They walk to the counter and ordered something. “Dad I would like a Marble frosted doughnut please”, said Shine sweetly to his father. Liam the Dad agree and order it. “Sir that would be $6.00”, said Sandy the Cashier. Liam take out a Five dollar note from his pocket Liam looked for more cash in his pocket but they were empty. Liam looked worried that he might not be able to buy Shine, his daughter a doughnut.

“Sweety, I think we don’t have enough money to buy a doughnut”, confessed Liam. “Awww…”, she pouted. Mina heard about it and decided to help them out. She waddled towards them and handed the change she had earlier. “Here you go sir, this might help”, generously said, Mina. “Thank you miss, but I cannot accept it”, replied Liam. “Accept it please sir”, insisted Mina. Shine was already smiling widely and hoping that his father would accept it. Liam couldn’t resist Shine’s begging puppy eyes and just decided to accept the help.

“Thank you so much, miss”, thanked Liam. Mina just smiled and waddled out of the shop. They now bought the Strawberry frosted doughnut and Shine was extremely joyful.

Water Cycle Research

Hello guys! This week for our Science Hurumanu subject,

we were asked to do some research about these big words.

What effect is this having on climate change?

Acidification means a process of something to become very acidic.

Ocean acidification is a term word for our Ocean is becoming acidic.

Why? well because of the number of sorts of garbage in our ocean,

who knows what type of rubbish is in the ocean.

It could be some chemicals and it makes the ocean

acidic and extremely filthy. 

What effect is this having on climate change?

Ocean Acidification is making climate change worse because

If our ocean is extremely dirty and it has a lot of rubbish.

It causes floods, huge massive floods because of our

the rubbish that we throw away in the ocean.

Deforestation, Deforestation is a term for an action cutting/burning down trees.

How does this affect climate change?

Well, If you burn a lot of trees, the smoke the lets out is one

of the Greenhouse gasses which is Carbon Dioxide through the atmosphere.

If that gas went through the atmosphere, it makes the Earth warmer.

Water Vapour, Water Vapour is part of the water cycle.

What it does is when the sun heats the water in the ocean,

the water evapourates like turn into clouds in the sky.

After it turns into a cloud, that cloud will cost rain.

If there’s a lot of rains, It will cost huge floods.

When the Ice melts in the Mountains,

it causes to have more water through the ocean.

It is also part of water cycles and if we have a lot of water in our ocean,

it’ll cause ranging floods.

CIP Term 2 Reflection

Kamusta Everyone! It's the last week of Term 2 and in CIP we have to make a blog post about all the things that we've done during the whole Term 2. 

Here are all the Topics we've been learning in CIP and they are:

• Kindness - Boomerang, Colouring competition, Making sandwiches and Cards, Hornby Elderly Daycare visits and last but not the least making letters of appreciation.
• Art From Trash 
• Needs vs Wants
• Pink Shirt Day

All of those are the amazing topics that we've been learning about in CIP. For me, I think Art from Trash is the best one, It's because I like art and creating sculptures etc. We've made a sculpture of a Kiwi Bird out of rubbish which is pretty cool. 

Next, The passions that I've entered was just Dance Group lead by Miss Birtch. I personally enjoyed it because I also like dancing and It was really enjoyable especially during the times we were learning some unique dance steps.

We also had a Dance group last Term, I think It's on every Term. I'm looking forward to some new interesting passions next Term. I would like to join some new passions as well but I'm still doing Dance group though.
