10ESOL: Writing Activity

Hi. As part of today's activity, I will be writing a blog about one of my holiday trips. Lately, I haven't been going out much so I will just write about what I did during the weekends.

It was just one of those typical weekends where it only felt like 30 minutes. However, what made a difference this time is that I get to try a new treat. My family and I went grocery in the supermarket. It was pretty much the same, plain and uninteresting. As I was browsing, a bold vivid yellow colour caught my eye in the corner. It was a popsicle Minions edition. It's kind of childish to say but I really wanted to know what it would taste like. I decided I want to buy it. After bugging my parents to let me buy it, eventually, they have given up and allowed me to buy it. We drove home and I immediate unbuckled my seatbelts, skipping on excitement. My tongue was already drooling for it. I opened the package and took one. The wrapper was frosty and had eye-catching designs plastered on it. I tore the wrapper, revealing the golden shimmery icy block of ice. The moment it made contact with my tongue, I felt like I was a new person. Each bite was satisfying and mouth-watering. I proceed to enjoy the popsicle and ate a couple more and shared it with my family.

ESOL: Term 1 Reflection

Greetings. Term one has been sort of exhausting for me overall. It was pretty hectic with all of these new unfamiliar subjects introduced to me. It was exciting and nerve-racking at the same time as I moved up to a new year level. Things sort of get more quite challenging. My ESOL class, we're great. We've done many learning games related and it was enjoyable. I would rate this term an 8 out of 10 because I think there is still room for improvement. I, personally, have been quite procrastinating and ignoring my unfinished work not until the last minute. I think I need to work on that for next term. In conclusion, Term one wasn't that bad and I'm looking forward to what the next term will bring.

ESOL: MassKara Festival (Essay)

Hi Today in ESOL we wrote an essay about one of our favourite celebrations in our culture.
____________________________

In my city in the Philippines, we have a festival called the ‘MassKara’ Festival. A rough translation of this in English is ‘Masks for many faces’ (Mass - Many / Kara - faces). We usually celebrate this festival every 4th of October every year and it’s held in the centre of Bacolod City. This festival is celebrated to bring smiles to people. Hence, my city is also known as the city of smiles because of this well-known festival. This festival consists of a parade of people wearing colourful costumes and masks. Along the side, there are vendors selling mouth-watering street foods, balloons, souvenirs of the festival, and many more.

I recall attending the MassKara festival one time in the Philippines back in the year 2015/2016. It was memorable and exciting. For as long as I can remember, I went with my family and friends to this event. I’ve enjoyed seeing all the people parade with such eccentric, vibrant details and designs on their costumes and mask. In some cases, they also do a little dance performance-enhancing their costumes and engaging with the audience. It was pretty crowded back then because a lot of people came to see the parade.

During those times, I was nearly leaving the Philippines to go to New Zealand so it was a special experience. With that said, my family and I bought a t-shirt souvenir from the festival. We bought a matching t-shirt with the MassKara festival logo on it. Luckily, I still have the souvenir t-shirt in my closet here in New Zealand because I brought it in my personal suitcase to New Zealand.

Although now in the present, it’s been 5 years since I left the Philippines. I hope someday when the situation around the pandemic is fixed, I will be able to visit and attend the festival once again.

10ESOL: Acronym

こんにちは! This week in ESOL we are working on acronyms of our name. You can view my poster below. We also had to put a 2 paragraphs explanation of 2 of the letters in our acronym.

Introvert -
I think I am an introvert because I don’t like socializing much. I’d rather stay home than go out there attending a social gathering event. Talking to people drains my energy especially when it is something unnecessary.

Humble -
I also think one of my characteristics is humility because I am not boastful about my achievements. I keep quiet and let my actions speak for me. I don’t consider myself any higher than others just because I know how to do something and they don’t. It takes learning and practice.

10ESOL: 321 RIQ

Hello everyone! Today in ESOL subject we have a new blogging guide system. It is called 321 RIQ. It stands for 3 - Recalls, 2 - Insights, and 1 - Question. The purpose of this was a guide template on what things we should include in our blog posts.

Last week, It was the first day of ESOL we played an introduction game. The mechanics of this game was to say an adjective that starts with the first letter of your first name. Then, you would say one thing you like that also starts with the first letter of your name. For eg. "I'm Kind Kenny and I like Kites".

Things that I know so far in ESOL are the 321 RIQ system, the students in ESOL class, and our lovely new ESOL teacher, Miss Truter. Throughout the year, I want to improve my basic language English skills and have a deeper knowledge of it. I would also like to learn about my teacher.

I think the 321 RIQ strategy might come in handy for me because I sometimes tend to forget what things to include. Looking forward to this year! =)
