Three Aspects of Sustainability

This week in Hurumanu 1 we are learning the three aspects of sustainability. The three aspects of sustainability are Social, Environmental, and Economical sustainability. Here is the definition of the three aspects of sustainability and as well as sustainable development.

The three aspects of sustainability

  • Environmental Sustainability - ensuring the future generation's needs are are accessible when it comes to natural recourses that can be found in the environment. We can, by using renewable resources instead of non-renewable ones.
  • Social SustainabilityCreating equality of access to resources regardless of who they are between social groups. Knowing the impacts of business and knowing how to manage it. As well as identifying the positive and negative effects on people and the economy.
  • Economic Sustainability - Is all about using and taking recourses wisely that we need in a sensible amount that would be still accessible in the future with future generations.
  • Sustainable Development - the ability to meet the needs of future generations without compromising. In order to do that, we shouldn't take advantage of the available resources on this planet and only take the necessary.

Who invented Basketball?

Hello! This week in PE Hurumanu 7 we've been exploring some unpredictable sports. On Tuesday we did some sports stacking and a little game of Bench ball. Today (Thursday session) we did some Basketball and practices each skill that is essential like dribbling, passing, etc. We are also tasked to do a little research about who invented the game basketball. Anyways here we go.

The man who invented the game basketball is James Naismith. James Naismith is an American-Canadian educator/ sports coach and innovator. He got the idea of making basketball because they needed a sport that can be played indoors because it's freezing outside because it's Winter.

The game was first used in 1891 at the YMCA training school in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Comic Strips - Kete Arts

Kamusta! This week we are starting again the Kete Arts after it was postponed from lockdown. Today we mostly focussed on catching on the same page since when this started, some people we're not there. Anyways, we started doing our own comic on a cool website called 'Pixton'.

It was new to most of us so we ended up doing the first half of it browsing through the website and how to use a specific thing. It was sort of challenging and exciting. I know for a fact for me, I'm into Anime and comic stuff, so It's pretty fun for me.

We also spend a little bit of the time customizing our own character. Here's how mine turned out.
I hope you like it!
My character

I'm not sure about the plot of my comic story yet but here's what I've come up so far:

Bye! Have a great day!

I hope you like it! Bye!

Chocolate Chip Cookies - Home Economics

Konnichiwa! This week in Home Economics we baked some Chocolate chip cookies this time.

I say the whole process went okay but still had some downs. As always, I'm on the same team. We were given the sort of a different layout recipe sheet. It used to be the kind of a layout where it's all written like for example; step 1, step 2, etc. It was in a paragraph instead.

It didn't really explain the steps in much detail like for example, how many minutes we should melt the butter in the microwave. We tried to melt it for like 30 seconds but it didn't do much work on the butter. But It's okay, we were supposed to cream it anyway. Anyways before I spoiled all the methods on how to make your own Chocolate chip cookie.

Tasting evaluations:
(Me and my team's finish product)

Firstly, what stands out the most is the Sugary flavour. It was extremely sweet and honeyed-like. Especially, there was a flavour of Chocolate chips so it made it more sweetener that might cause sugar-rush. But the texture of the cookie was neutral. It was chewie and soft at the same time, which is unusual.

But after it was cooled for a few minutes, It was all crunchy. I'd rate it 4/10 because I'm not really a fan of sweet foods such as candy, chocolates, etc. Maybe next time, what we could do is to reduce the amount of sugar maybe, if it doesn't ruin the recipe. But otherwise, I say It's not too bad at all.

Thank you for reading! BYE

Juggling and Tennis Table - PE Hurumanu 7

Hi, for the past 3 weeks in PE Hururmanu 7, we have been learning how to Juggle and play Table Tennis. Juggling was challenging for me. I didn't really know how to juggle that much and I always kept on failing to do so. It's like multi-tasking, you catch this ball while you throw this ball onto the air, etc.
Satisfying anime gifs - Album on Imgur
Anyways, we only not just juggle a ball but also a thin fancy piece of fabric where it has little tiny holes in it to prevent it from falling to the ground easily and you could catch it. We also had another juggling stuff like the Devil sticks where you try to catch the rubbery texture stick onto the 2 sticks you're holding. There's also a lot more, but I forgot what they were called. I wasn't a fan of juggling, but it was okay.

Table Tennis, the second sport that we're doing. If you don't know what it is, it's basically sort of like a Ping Pong where you have to verse someone and they'll be on the other side of the table. Then, you just tryna hit the small soft white ball and bounce it only once into your partner's table and vice versa.

Table tennis star, 12, 'unfairly' booted from team after coach ...Table Tennis was tough. I had no idea how to play it. During the first week, I practiced by versing the wall itself. The wall isn't moving or anything, it just bounces back to me and I have trouble catching it.
I think for a fact, I've missed the ball for almost 50+ times. But eventually, I got the hang of it. But, it doesn't mean I'm good at it. I still miss some shots, but it was sort of fun, even though I was bad at both sports.

What I could do better next time is to get to know the sport more, practice harder, and have resilience. Anyways, Bye! Have a nice day everyone!

Sustain Silent Reading 2

Hello again! I'll be posting another post about our Sustain Silent Reading (SSR) activity in Hurumanu 6. Here's my link to my first post so you'll get a better understanding of what I've been reading.

June 3, 2020 - Schooled by Gordon Korman
I'm currently on Chapter 3 of the book. Last week, I've read about Capricorn's grandmother Rain falls out of the Plumtree breaking her hips. Cap (Capricorn for short) had to bring her to a hospital by himself. Because Cap's parents abandoned him when he was young and was left with his grandmother in Garland farm, no one was gonna take care of him.

Cap was thirteen years old so he needed someone to look after him while her grandma is getting healed in the Hospital. Though her cranky grandma Rain refuses to stay at the hospital, she had no other choice but to heal herself first. Cap met Mrs. Donelly a woman who once also spend her childhood in Garland and knew his grandma Rain. Mrs. Donelly seems fishy for me though.
To be continued...

June 10, 2020 - Chapter 3-6
This week again we are doing SSR. The plot of this story is getting spicy. Cap being the odd one out, he's unfortunately targeted by the bullies (Zach and his minions). Mrs. Donelly wasn't fishy at all. She was trying her best to make her daughter Sophie to not being rude about him. Sophie has hated Cap's guts and is clearly showing it visibly.

There was also a new character Hugh Winkleman, the outcast nerd who used to be bullied. But now that Cap came to the school. He's now the new target replacing Hugh's position. He pitied Cap for it since they are starting to make fun of him such as spitball, and currently electing him for being the president when he didn't even sign up for it. Hugh felt bad for him and has clearly had the understanding what's going on but didn't have the guts to tell Cap. Because, if Cap isn't gonna be the target and then he will be just like in the old times, and he doesn't want it to happen. So he just chooses to stay silent and ignore it.

There's also a new character introduced. Naomi Erlanger. A girl who's willing to do anything to get her crush's attention which is Zach and to eventually be in a relationship with him. Even if it means, bullying Cap along with his friends. The thing is though, her bold best friend Lena, Zach has a crush on her friend. So she's basically doing anything to surpass her friend through Zach.

June 15, 2020 - Chapter 6
As Zach and Naomi trick Cap on being the president. He was forced to give a speech in the assembly as being elected as the 'president'. The next thing he said was bizarre. He thought he shouldn't be the president because he doesn't know anyone in the school. For what he believes, It's part of the president's job to learn all the student's name and there's like 200+ students in the school. Naomi felt sorry for him but she has to play along with Zach's plan as well as she wants to get Zach's heart.

June 17, 2020 - Chapter 6 - 7
The secret bullying continues as Cap being the 'President' of Grade 8th students in Claverage High School. Besides Zach and Naomi not telling him that he doesn't have to learn all the student's names to be the president. They also put some unpleasant things inside Cap's locker. There were some weird things but he didn't really put any reactions to it. But one of the things Naomi and Zach put in was a dead bird. Cap as a pure soul, he dug a small grave for the dead bird to put in and some Daisy flowers in it. Gathering some attention to other students.
Naomi felt somehow an emotion to him which she felt bad for him and liked the sensitive, pure sides of Capricorn. She joined him on the little funeral of the dead bird. Zach was sort of disappointed with her for getting her emotions took control of her.

June 22, 2020 - Chapter 7-8
As always, the book is all about Capricorn knowing some more cruel things outside Garland farm in which he grows up. He is also continuing to have a little crush on Sophie - Mrs. Donelly's 16-year-old daughter. Sophie would always get irritated with him and take things personally. As usual, Cap would get up early in the morning and do some martial arts stretching and Sophie emptied a bucket of water down to his head from upstairs. Mrs. Donelly was really sorry for him and he realized Sophie does really hate him. Also, Mrs. Donelly is finding out some things about what's happening at school with Capricorn, she felt really bad for him to deal with this.

June 24, 2020
Cap is discovering more unusual stuff outside Garland. He is getting more confuse on what is happening. Like this one, for example, people always throw spitballs at his fluffy curly long hair and he thought they are some sort of molecules that got into his hair because of how much paper there are in school. He discovered it every after school while he was brushing his hair. He also constantly misses Rain her grandma of course. He feels lost and unguided in the world. He also comes to the realization of why Rain moved to Garland from the city because it's a bunch of chaos etc. He also kept on getting some made-up love notes from Naomi and it sort of makes him feels crept out.

June 29, 2020
Cap is falling for Sophie more even though she's being mean towards him, he even started watching her favorite TV shows on the TV and he amused by it I guess. He has not seen a single TV on his life and it was a blast for him. His shoes were stolen so he had to go home barefoot and a bunch of yucky stuff stuck on his foot. On Sophie on the other hand she had a date with Josh. Josh was about to pick her up from her house when they both saw Cap looking like a homeless boy scrapping off his foot on whatever random stuff got stuck on his foot. Sophie was embarrassed to admit she lived with him so she said he was some random disgusting homeless guy. But eventually, she regretted saying it. Her date with Josh was a letdown. He talks about gaming for 3 hours so it was really boring.

How to make Cup Cakes - Home Economics

Hi, This week in Home Economics, we baked cupcakes. We had 2 sessions on making the cupcake. Tuesday - baking the cupcake and Friday - Decorating the cupcake.
We had the challenge to try tricking the brain by not having the match colours to its flavour. You'll see on the slides down below that we had colour Blue icing but the flavour was Strawberry n' cream. In total, we baked, 12 cupcakes in total, we divided it into 4 people which is my team. We had 3 cupcakes each and we have to make the 3 cupcakes identical.
Here's a slideshow I made to show you how to make your own delicious cupcake:

The cupcake wasn't that bad, it was alright for me. But there are some problems we had because I think we overmixed the icing and the texture was lumpy and not fluffy. Maybe next time we should be extra careful on mixing things to make sure we don't over mix it.
Thank you for viewing my post, have a great day!~

How to make Spiced Apple Muffins - Home Economics

Hi! This is a late post. In Home Economics we baked Spiced Apple Muffins. Here's a slideshow I made to show you how to make Spice Apple Muffins. Here ya go:

I rate the finished product 5/10. It's not too bad and good, just neutral. I think to make this better next time is maybe to be accurate and precise with the number of ingredients. But overall, it's not too bad.
Bye!~

Chronomatography - Hurumanu 3 - Science

Hi, Today in Hurumanu 3, Science we are learning about Chromatography. Chroma means 'colour' in greek. The purpose of this experiment is to see what are the different colours that one certain colour has. For this experiment, I chose the colour, Violet.

Aim: To separate pigment colors.

Hypothesis: I think mine will have a different variety of colours on it.

Method:
1. Get your Filter paper strip and cut it in half.
2. Choose a colour felt and draw a dot two fingers away from the bottom
3. Fill up your beaker about 50ml of water.
4. Place your filter paper in the side of the beaker.
5. Wait for a couple of minutes until the colour spreads.

Results:
My first colour results (Colour Violet)
There were Light blue and Pink popped up inside purple.
My 2nd colour results; I used Colour Black this time:
The colours that are in here are Orange, Purple, Blue, Sky Blue, and a little bit of pink.

Bye! Have a great day!~

Christmas all around the world

Hi, In last week of school (CIP Subject) the teacher set a task for us to do. It's called Christmas all around the world" - the task is to research on 3 countries of your choice and to know what kind of different varieties of traditions they do during Christmas and make a DLO about it. The 3 countries I choose are Korea, France and Greece.
Here's my DLO:

Have an awesome week~

Tiny Boat

Hi, this week Miss Birtched taught me how to write a story in four paragraphs. So here's my story:
Hope you like it :)

My gaze landed first on the top of the hill, and there was some blue clear sky above. As I moved my gaze to the left I saw a blue deep peaceful ocean and a floating big lonely boat in the middle. I placed my gaze to the bottom and there I saw a bunch of tiny boats floating around the area. Something caught my eye, I saw my friend Asami in one of the tiny boats.

Image result for tiny boatI called out to her and she immediately spotted me and showed me an enthusiastic smile. She kept looking at me and was trying to say something but unfortunately, I couldn't hear her. I noticed in the corner of my eye, she is about to crash into another tiny boat. I warned her about it but it was too late, her boat bumped into another boat.

She screamed in the top of her lungs as she crashed into another boat. Her boat was kind of damaged because of that accident and it made a big crack on the side. Cause of that, the icy-like-water started going in her boat as she yelled for help. The water quickly entered the boat and it was already between her knees and her boat is nearly sinking down the water.

Luckily, The guy that was in the boat that she bumped with, jumped to the cold water without any hesitation. He swims quickly as he can towards Asami and saved her from drowning. He carried her in his back and swim back to shore. I sighed in relief that now she is saved by a mysterious guy.

Bye and give me some feedback below for a better blog post in the future.

Speed Date An Author!

Namaste! Today I'll be blogging about my awesome experience on Speed Date An Author event earlier. They were 8 lucky students from each class and I was chosen in Tz. I was with Bailey, Nici, Jackson, Talia, Lyan, Emily, Bailey and Mr Scott. There we're 4 sessions and morning tea in between. The amazing authors/illustrators in there are Donovan Bixley, Elissa Weissman, Bill Nagelkerke and Daisy Lavea Timo.

They were all pretty interesting and entertaining. One of them taught us about how you could come up with a great character for your story. First off, you just basically draw doodles or shape for a start and let your mind draw. Don't think about making it perfect because no one is perfect.

Their lessons taught me how to...

  • Come up with better ideas for characters
  • Learn different types of author voices
  • Interesting words that I didn't know before like 'Triskaidekaphobia'. It basically means fear of number Thirteen. Pretty weird right? I didn't people would be scared of number 13.
Reflection: That was an amazing experience going to Speed Date An Author event but at the same time very scary. Because in one of the workshops no one volunteered to share their story they've written and the teacher started picking students and I have an anxiety attack that she might choose me. But luckily, she didn't.

Anyways thanks for reading my post and have a lucky year!

Scratch VS Sphero

Annyeong! Today I'll be doing a reflection about two apps we explored on Tuesday this week which is Scratch and Sphero.

1) What is Scratch?
Scratch is one of the apps we can use to make our game. Scratch does a lot of thrilling things like you can add your own sound effects or you could voice over your character. Using the great app, you could make a stopmotion or an animation.

2) What is Sphero?
Sphero is an app where you can control a small sphere robot. In that app, you can tell what the robot to do. To control the sphero you need to connect it with an Apple iPad and connect it with a robot. When one of the Sphero lights up, that means that's the robot you just connected. You could also make it say something and change the light colour.
Image result for scratchImage result for sphero
3) What do these tools have in common?
The things that Sphero and scratch have in common is that you could both control and edit whatever you want it to do. I also notice they both start at letter S.

4) Which one do you prefer and why?
For me, I think I'd prefer to use Scratch because you can edit it using your Chromebook. If you use sphero you have to connect the iPad to the robot and you'll have trouble controlling it especially you don't use a common iPad in the school It's one of the kinds of iPad. Plus, you can use scratch at home if you have your own Chromebook.

5) How could you use one of these to address your issues?
I could use the Scratch app and make a specific character that travelled somewhere and fix the deforestation problems with her magic. I know magic doesn't exist in real life but It's fine.

Anyway, Bye and have a great day everyone!

PE Hurumanu (Bench ball game and Maths)

Kia Ora! Today I'll be blogging about what we have done for the past few weeks in PE Hurumanu. First of all, a group called 'french fries' taught us a very enjoyable game called 'Bench Ball'. It wasn't really a sport but we enjoyed it though. The warm-ups they prepared were 40-star jumps, 20 High knees, 10 runs back and forth and the drills were Sneak up granny.

After we've done the warm-ups and drills, we finally moved on to the real game. First off, we were separated into our year groups which are year 7 and year 8's. I'm a year 8 student so I went to the year 8 sections. We versed the Year 8 BH and the Year 7 TZ also verse the Year 7 BH. We all did two rounds and sadly, Year 8TZ lose both rounds while Year 7TZ won just one game because we didn't have enough time.

Next, I'll be talking about the Math-related activity we did with Miss Birtch. The purpose of this Hurumanu is that we learn a different subject as well. It's not just all PE we also do other subjects such as Maths, Reading or Writing. We did a math problem relating to painting a pitch lining on the field of football and we need to find out how many It will costs to paint the whole field, how much time It will take and How much Whiteline buckets do we need?

I was grouped with Risha and Kya for this maths problems. At first, we were very confused because we get it all mixed up. We were also split into two groups 3 teams went to Miss Simpson to practice their warm-ups while the other 3 teams are working on math problems with Miss Birtch. In the end, we shared how we did it and what type of strategy we use but we got similar strategies with other groups. We divide it and that's how we got the answer to it.

Reflection: I think French Fries did a really a good job of teaching us a game/sport. Maybe next time add another drill because you guys have only one drill and we were supposed to have 2 drills. Also, make sure the drills are related to the game you are teaching next time but overall you guys did a really good job. Keep it up!

I was an outstander because I pass the ball to people on my team instead of passing it to the same person all the time.
But anyway, thanks for reading my post and have a great day!

Reader's Theatre!

Kamusta! Today I'll be blogging about our last Reader's theatre play. I think we've done a pretty good job making the play. The thing that we need to work on is expressing emotions because we look like a total robot. But overall I enjoyed making our play!
The people I work within this play are Risha, Shreya, Nevaeh and myself.

Have a look at our play:

Thanks for viewing my post and have a great day!

ELLA WEST VISITING HHS!!!

Image result for night vision ella west
Kia Ora! Today I'll be blogging about the amazing assembly we just had in P1. Today was a special assembly because we have an unexpected guest. This guest is the author of a specific book that the AL class have been reading. The name of this special guest is Ella west. She wrote 2 interesting books called 'Night Vision' and 'Rain Fall'. For me, I found Night Vision interesting because based on the sneak peek of Miss Ella West told us about the book. The main character which is a girl she has this unique allergic which only like a rare of people would have this. She is unbelievably allergic to sunlight.

This character has been going through a lot in her life, she even witnessed the death of someone by a burning car. The plot of the story is pretty interesting and I'm looking forward to reading this book hopefully If I have time. She also told us how she did research on google of a specific place to use in her book. I like how she actually learned what's the place actually looks like so she could add the details of the place in her book.

That's pretty much about the session today.
I hope you enjoy my post and have a great day!

Miss Ella West I hope you enjoy visiting us this morning!
=)
