10ESOL: Acronym

こんにちは! This week in ESOL we are working on acronyms of our name. You can view my poster below. We also had to put a 2 paragraphs explanation of 2 of the letters in our acronym.

Introvert -
I think I am an introvert because I don’t like socializing much. I’d rather stay home than go out there attending a social gathering event. Talking to people drains my energy especially when it is something unnecessary.

Humble -
I also think one of my characteristics is humility because I am not boastful about my achievements. I keep quiet and let my actions speak for me. I don’t consider myself any higher than others just because I know how to do something and they don’t. It takes learning and practice.

English: Language Features

こんにちは! This week in English I've been learning about the language features. To show our understanding of what we have learned, we have to create a slideshow about it. Including the following things, definition, examples, and effects on readers.

Here's the result of my learning:

Science: Physical or Chemical Change

Physical or Chemical Change

こんにちは! Today in Science we are conducting a practical experiment around heating a Zinc Oxide and find out whether it is a Physical or Chemical change.

Hypothesis: My hypothesis is that it will be a Chemical change because it absorbs heat, changes its substance, and is not easily reversible. Heat, Sparks, = Chemical. However, I may end up being wrong.

Equipment:
- Sample of ZnO (Zinc Oxide)
- Heat Source
- Scales
- Heatproof container - Evaporating dish
- Tongs
- Heatproof mat

Method:
1.) Get a sample of Zno in an evaporating dish (about 3 scoops).
2.) Weigh the Zno + container - record weight.
3) Heat container + Zno on a hot plate.
4.) Observe any changes - use the phone for before and after photos
5.) Take off heat + put on a heatproof mat.
6.) Let cool and observe.
7.) Reweigh

Results:
After doing the experiment, it turns out that heating Zno didn't change its' substance to liquid and there was barely any change. The only visible change was the change of color from White to Light green. The weight of the object was still the same before and after.

Weighs of the ZnO sample:

Before heating: 36g
After heating: 36g

Conclusion:
In conclusion, I was wrong. It was not a Chemical change. It was a physical change because it was easily reversible to its original color when cooled down. There was no new substance formed and the mass of the object was still the same before and after.

Wananga Reflection: #1 Treaty of Waitangi

Hi everyone! In Wananga, every Friday from now and then we have to do an activity called 'Wananga Reflection Section'. Basically, we spent half an hour reflecting on our blogs about a specific text or something that you can recall that happened in the school week.

Text title: "Waitangi - What really happened"

Type: Video/Dramatize documentary

Creator: Gavin Strawhan

Text purpose: To inform us about the treaty of Waitangi.

Date: 12 February 2021

Critical Literacy Matrix Question:

The text was about the treaty of Waitangi. It created in 7 episodes series telling what really happened in the olden days on the treaty of Waitangi. We know it's about the treaty of Waitangi because the characters and setting of the story were related to the topic. The actors dressed in traditional Maori clothing and as well as the British people. The introduction was showing how British people traveled using a ship and arriving in the land of New Zealand and discovering the Maori tribe that already have settled there before them. Later in the story, there was some kind of misunderstanding between the treaty of the Maori people and the British people regarding the land of Aotearoa (NZ). The translation in both languages wasn't accurate. Maori people thought they're only here to 'use' the land not to actually buy it and make it their territory.

Down here we have our little 3 comic panels that we worked on to summarised what we watched so far in the Waitangi - What really happened series.

10ESOL: 321 RIQ

Hello everyone! Today in ESOL subject we have a new blogging guide system. It is called 321 RIQ. It stands for 3 - Recalls, 2 - Insights, and 1 - Question. The purpose of this was a guide template on what things we should include in our blog posts.

Last week, It was the first day of ESOL we played an introduction game. The mechanics of this game was to say an adjective that starts with the first letter of your first name. Then, you would say one thing you like that also starts with the first letter of your name. For eg. "I'm Kind Kenny and I like Kites".

Things that I know so far in ESOL are the 321 RIQ system, the students in ESOL class, and our lovely new ESOL teacher, Miss Truter. Throughout the year, I want to improve my basic language English skills and have a deeper knowledge of it. I would also like to learn about my teacher.

I think the 321 RIQ strategy might come in handy for me because I sometimes tend to forget what things to include. Looking forward to this year! =)
