Solubility Experiment - Hur. 3 || Chemistry, Science ||

Aim: To experiment with which one dissolves the more in water, baking soda or salt.

Hypothesis: I think Baking Soda will dissolve more.

-Salt
-Baking soda
-1x 250 ml beaker
-100 ml measuring cylinder
-Stirring rod
-1x teaspoon
-1x ruler
-tap water
Water - 80 ml


Method:
1. Fill the beaker with 100 ml tap water
2. Add a teaspoon of baking soda and use a ruler to slide down the extra baking soda at the top.
3. Stir the solution until all the baking soda dissolves.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until no more baking soda will dissolve into the solution.
5. Record how many teaspoons of baking soda were added.
6. Repeat the experiment with salt this time.

Results:

Solute:
Number of Spatula until it doesn’t dissolve:
Baking Soda
14
Salt 
22
The results were... We put 14 scoops of Spatula in Baking Soda until it stops dissolving. Salt, on the other hand, Salt got to 22 scoops of Spatula until It doesn't dissolve anymore.
In conclusion, Salt Won! Yay...It turns out that Salt can dissolve more than the Baking Soda can.

My Hypothesis was wrong...I thought Baking Soda would dissolve more than salt at first because I thought it would do a chemical reaction of some sort like fizz but I was wrong. It only works on Vinegar and not water. Maybe next time we will put Baking soda in hot water to get better results.
